“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”
The origin of this quote is uncertain. But I have heard and read about it in blogs and podcasts.
And I agree.
When I was a young leader growing in my faith and leadership, I received mentoring from kuya’s and ate’s in our church. A number of pastors and deaconesses walked with me, encouraged me, and challenged me to become a better person and a leader.
When I became the national president of the youth organization of our church, I found an excellent mentor who has worked well with young leaders throughout his life–Rev. Homer. Together with my fellow national officers, we worked on a lot of great projects and grew together.
When I started serving at Young People’s Ministries, I found another mentor–Rev. Mike. As my boss and friend, I have learned a lot from him about work, life, and faith.
Many other mentors have walked with me at different stages of my life. One thing is for sure. I am a better person because of them. When I am ready again, I have no doubt that my next mentor will show up.
